Karen H. Kaszak, CPA

Karen H. Kaszak, CPA, Director, joined the Firm in June 1998 after three and a half years with a Maryland based public accounting firm.  Karen specializes in providing tax services to clients in the alternative investment industry.  She works with a variety of clients including investment partnerships, high net worth individuals, real estate investment entities, investment advisors and related management entities.  Karen's experience includes research and compliance related to foreign entities, with emphasis on Passive Foreign Investment Companies, Controlled Foreign Corporations and foreign trusts. She maintains a comprehensive understanding of IRS and state provisions to assist clients with a variety of U.S. and state tax issues, in addition to international tax issues related to foreign persons invested in U.S. entities as well as U.S. persons invested in foreign entities.  Karen has represented various clients under IRS examinations.

Karen has developed and conducted related in-house training courses for the tax department personnel. In addition, she provides guidance for staff on complex technical issues and the unique reporting requirements related to the alternative investment industry.

Karen graduated Summa Cum Laude from Frostburg State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting.  She is a licensed CPA in the state of Maryland and earned one of the top ten scores in Maryland when she successfully completed the May 1996 uniform Certified Public Accountant exam.  Karen is a member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.  She regularly contributes articles to the monthly publication of the Managed Funds Association (MFA Reporter), with topics including tax issues associated with the alternative investments industry and high net-worth individuals.
